Arun Manav has sent me the following query about a term
that appears in Record of Yoga. “Sri Aurobindo
has mentioned the term—solarithm: a new mathematical figure. It appears at two places
in the Record under the heading of Lipi.
One such reference is Lipi: entry dated May 21st, 1915 page number 848 of Record of Yoga.”
He asks: “What it [solarithm] is all about? Is there any
such figure described by him to any one?
Kindly elaborate.”
The second question can be answered without difficulty.
I don’t think Sri Aurobindo described the figure to any one. These records were
unknown to others, perhaps even to the Mother. In fact these were not supposed
to be published. There was a note on top of the pile of papers marked “confidential”.
But the first question: what the mathematical figure “solarithm” is about?
Sorry, I can’t say anything about it. But if any reader of the Mirror of Tomorrow can throw light on
it, it will be wonderful.
