Dear Auroman,
Strictly speaking, yes! But often there is a good source of secondary documents such as those of close disciples such as Champaklal, Nirodbaran, Nolini, etc, which throw light on Sri Aurobindo and the Mother's spiritual personalities. The problem with Heehs is that he has sourced hostile accounts of British spies, those American visitors to the Ashram who have no sense of bhakti, political enemies, etc, which will necessarily show Sri Aurobindo in bad light. He has then claimed objectivity, as if it his duty to consider this aspect of history. You might as well ask the rickshaw man what he thinks about Sri Aurobindo -- even these poor fellows are sometimes inwardly developed. The pity is that great people such as Sri Aurobindo and the Mother hardly speak of themselves, except occasionally. That is why you have to turn to secondary sources which you have to use with discretion.
