Re: A Talk with Sri Aurobindo—Noted down by Pavitra
by
Vikas
Modern physics recognizes four forces of nature which need to be unified into a common theory:
Electromagnetic
Weak nuclear
Strong nuclear
Gravity.
I am guessing Vayu would correspond to all these 4 things."
Sri Aurobindo writes
"According to the experience of ancients Yogis, sensible matter was made out of five elements, bhūtāni: Prithvi, Apas, Agni (Tejas), Vayu, Akasha.".
He further states that Vayu "is the support of all contact and exchange, the cause of gravitation and of the fields (magnetic and electric).".
Therefore Vayu is the cause of these forces and not any of these four forces. It is also interesting to note that Vayu is not air or gas. Further in Sankhya the five elements the ancients referred to namely air, water, fire, ether and earth are not elements as we know them in science but conditions of material energy. It is these subtle conditions or the combination of these subtle conditions that create objects as we percieve them to be. These five elements in their purity are not be found in the material world.
Chidakasha is an interesting question. More on it later.
