"Melding of East and West" happens in 1933 or thereabout when Sri Aurobindo’s Symbol is heralded. The genealogy of the Symbol and The Mother’s birth are matters which we ordinarily keep away from on various grounds such as religious provincialism, misplaced nationalism, and anti-colonial sentiments. Such parochialism, unfortunately, is a disservice to the very task to which we have been called upon. The primacy of The Mother in our path is not unknown, but the Judeo-Vedic pact that she accomplishes has not received due attention. The “Third dream” consists of carrying the message and means of this pact back to its home, to the “Mediterranean” as it were. [TNM]
