IMHO, we are mistakenly applying the principles of liberal democracy, human rights, information era to a subtle problem within Yoga. This is called kutarka (wrong logic) In past centuries, the Guru only imparted knowledge to a disciple who was ready for it. Sadly, that is no longer the case which is why we have some of these issues. The disclaimer is useless and here is the reason why: I am going to explain it with a marketing analogy. Sri Aurobindo is our brand name. If you tarnish the brand name, new people are not going to come to Integral Yoga anymore. This has nothing to do with hurt sentiments of devotees. I am afraid of the subliminal message this book projects onto unknown readers when it discusses: 1) romantic fantasies embedded in Sri Aurobindo's novels. 2) schizophrenia comparison 3) questioning the validity of Adesh. 4) Sri Aurobindo holding hands with the Mother. and many other things. I am speculating that this is what that quote of the Mother, which has been thrown around without explanation, actually means:
It is not a question of disobedience. I know nothing about your additions to the Life Sketch of the sources from which they were taken. My point of view is this, that anything written by a sadhak about Sri Aurobindo which brings him down to an ordinary level and admits the reader to a sort of gossiping familiarity with him is an unfaithfulness to Him and His work. Good intentions are not sufficient; it is necessary that this should be understood by everybody.
Freedom of speech is available outside the Ashram. If you live in the Ashram, then you are a genuine Sadhak which means you surrender your ego and work for Sri Aurobindo with a pure heart and mind.
