What I meant by the third position above is another way of saying how "aspiration rejection surrender" could be applied the task of writing a book.
The third position is where mind is yoked to Buddhi (Buddhiyukta as the Gita calls in Chapter 2, Verse 45) so that the decision is not based on instincts but awakened intelligence.
Our historian in his Auroville Today interview talks about a struggle between being squeamish or bold while dealing with unpleasant historical documents.
There should be no conflict between the profession and the Guru if the book was written with an awakened intelligence. It is not a question of loyalty but intuition.
A Buddhiyukta historian would know that every primary document is not important by itself and that the spiritual persona cannot be developed in a book solely based on documents.
There is a difference between what one may call Higher history and Lower history. Higher is the history written with awakened mind while Lower is the one written by a rational mind. This book is of the latter quality.
