What is of further interest here is that this notion of "prototype" occurs in other mystical writings.
1) Blavatsky in the Secret Doctrine states that the astral prototype of man preceded his physical appearance. After the physical form appeared, it became subject to the processes of differentiation (i.e. Darwinian evolution.)
2) And see Carlos Castaneda in his book "Fire from Within" Page 261-269. Here Don Juan talks of the "mold of man" which is the same as the prototype. The native Americans were occult experts !
Here is some of the text from that book:
"then a sudden flash of memory came to me and I remembered that I had seen the mold of man". (Carlos is talking about his own spiritual experience)
The mold as he saw it:
"A shiny man that exuded charisma, love, understanding, sincerity, truth. A man that was the sum total of all that is good"
"He(Don Juan) also said that each species has a mold of its own... He said the old seers as well as the mystics of the world had been ...able to see the mold of man but not understand what it is....anyone who sees the mold of man automatically assumes it is God...we are simply the product of its stamp, its impression."
"a pattern of energy that stamps a quality of humanness on an amorphous blob of biological matter"
