Amartya sen has done extensive study on poverty and famines in Indian and south asian countries. There is no point is saying that he is not an Indian just because he has secular views. His book Democracy as Freedom is an excellent exposition about the importance of democracy and how poverty can be alleviated from the society. He has critiqued on the economic policies and other social inequalities. Even in "The argumentative Indian and Identity and Violence" he seems to say that India has a secular and argumentative tradition which suits democracy and that democracy exited in India and not borrowed from the west. He is more of an economist and social thinker than a scholar on religion. Let us give credit where it is due. His books reveal his love for his country.
